Mulla Sadra has left about
40 books and treatises from himself. Some of these works are very important and
well-known to the world. Unfortunately, they have been published full of errors
and in an inappropriate form, and some of them are quite rare. This issue has
bothered philosophy experts and researchers for a long time.
Fortunately, the Sadra
Islamic Philosophy Institute decided to critically edit these books and publish
them in the best form possible. In order to accomplish this task, it founded a
new department mainly devoted to this goal.
In line with the
previously set programs, the Institute initially tried to identify the
handwritten copies. In this way, it developed a list of Mulla Sadra’s books
based on the information provided by personal and public libraries possessing
treasures of manuscripts. In the long run, the Institute managed to identify a
big collection of invaluable manuscripts of Mulla Sadra’s works and obtained
many of them. Later, based on the inventory of these manuscripts, which
contained the names of more than 40 books or treatises, the Institute located
them in the list of other libraries. The Editing Secretariat, affiliated with
SIPRIn, by providing the details about some of the unlisted copies in public and
private libraries, has helped experts in developing a comprehensive bibliography
of Mulla Sadra’s works.
According to experts, this
philosopher has about 42 books and treatises. Some treatises are also attributed
to him. Some of the available manuscripts belong to Mulla Sadra himself, which
is of great help in the accurate edition of these works.
